Trained and driven by Quentin Schneider, Mr Saratoga circled a short field of pacers to take top honours in the $8,500 Open at Alberta Downs on Sunday afternoon.
The field for the week's top class was scratched down to four with Flak Jacket sick.
Trust The Artist (Tim Brown) swept to the lead at the :27.3 opening quarter over insider No Fear (Brandon Campbell). After clearing to command, he cruised through middle splits of :56.1 and 1:25 with No Fear moving back out to challenge. No Fear gained a slight advantage into the stretch, but trailer Mr Saratoga sprinted home off his cover in :28-seconds to win by four lengths. The winning time was 1:53.2. No Fear settled for second while Smooth Criminal (Bill Tainsh Jr.) finished fourth as Trust The Artist faded to last.
The nine-year-old son of Million Dollar Cam was the race favourite and paid $4.60 to win. He earned his second Open win this year in 15 starts for Calgary owners Glenn Pinel and Alan Christensen.
The victory was his 32nd lifetime and pushed his bankroll to $690,402.
