A pair of two-hole sitters took the Batavia Downs co-features for distaffers on Wednesday, August 17.
In the $7,000 Fillies and Mares Open Trot, four-year-old Victory Sam mare Hat (driven by Jim McNeight) sat behind the front-stepping Bigfinewoman (John Cummings, Jr.) before tipping out at the head of the lane. Hat ($8.80) gradually wore down the tempo setter to record her 20th career win, which was by a head in 1:58.2, for trainer Sue Stockwell and owner Fred Polk.
After sitting in the garden spot in the $9,000 Fillies and Mares Open Pace, four-year-old Noble Ability mare Its Only Roni (driven by Troy Boring) fired home up the passing lane to win in a lifetime best 1:55.2. The Joe Robbins-trained and Francis Feely-owned mare returned $14.60 on a successful Win wager.
