The New York Sire Stakes rolled into Saratoga Casino Hotel on Wednesday, August 16, and the two-year-old trotting colts laid siege on the divisional track mark.
Fourth Dimension, by Chapter Seven, recorded his fourth consecutive win in one of the $54,500 NYSS splits. The Marcus Melander trainee scored on the engine for pilot Brian Sears, who had previously driven the freshman to track marks at both Monticello Raceway and Yonkers Raceway. On Wednesday at Saratoga, Fourth Dimension was the public’s 1-9 betting favourite as he trotted a front-end trip to complete his grand slam in 1:57. The mile was in track-record time for the division, but Fourth Dimension’s new track record wouldn’t last long.
The Tracy Brainard-trained My Lindy Winner, by Credit Winner, got up in the final strides during his $54,500 NYSS split and prevailed in 1:56.4, which made him the fastest two-year-old trotter in track history. Jim Morrill Jr. worked out a covered trip for My Lindy Winner, who prevailed for the first time in just two career starts.
At the start of the evening, it was Trond Smedshammer’s Perlucky, by Lucky Chucky, who actually was the first one on the night to lower the previous track mark for freshmen, as he trotted to a NYSS score in 1:57.1. Highlighted by a final half in :56.2, Perlucky broke his maiden in impressive fashion.
Live racing will resume on Friday at Saratoga with a 7:05 p.m. first post.
