Winkys Pride Persists In Preferred

The last time Winkys Pride raced in Ontario, it was in a Preferred Trot event in late May with Scott Coulter driving the mare to victory. That combination reunited nearly three months later, and the result was the same.

On Monday night at Grand River Raceway, Winkys Pride was the narrow betting favourite in the $11,000 Preferred 2 Trot over Lexis D J (Bob McClure). Coulter hustled Winkys Pride out from Post 5 and made the front end, with Lexis D J stalking from the pocket through fractions of :28.1, :57.1 and 1::27.1. McClure pulled pocket around the final turn and took a shot at the pacesetter but came up just short as Winkys Pride tripped the timer in 1:57 just ahead of Lexis D J. Order By Commander (Travis Henry) completed the triactor.

Trained and owned by Robert Hummel of Puslinch, Ont., Winkys Pride (Amigo Hall - Winkys Smile) now boasts 30 lifetime wins and more than $208,000 in lifetime earnings. The win was part of a four-win night for Coulter, who also scored with Draft Seelster, Sharelife and Rebel Child.
