Mohawk Racetrack will be busy this Saturday as it hosts multiple stakes events for two-year-old pacers
. Three divisions of the Eternal Camnation Stakes will go to post headlining the best two-year-old fillies in North America and the continent's best pacing colts in three divisions of the Nassagaweya Stakes.
Big Jim will be one of the freshmen pacers who will headline the Nassagaweya Stakes but, owner 'Big' Jim Carr is faced with an important decision to make - who will drive his horse?
Fresh off winning the Dream Maker Pacing Series in 1:51.1, Big Jim has been handled by Sylvain Filion and Phil Hudon. Yet again, he may be getting a new pilot Saturday night.
Phil Hudon drove the son of Western Ideal to victory in his most recent outing but is currently under suspension by the Ontario Racing Commission. Hudon's hearing is scheduled for Thursday morning at 8 a.m. and the final changes for Saturday's card are due at 9 a.m.
Carr noted that if Hudon is relieved of his suspension he will be the pilot on Big Jim; if not, Driver Randy Waples will be appointed.
"Originally 'Friday' Dean was going to put 'To Be Announced' on the horse and I didn't want that. I wanted to have someone in mind in case Phil (Hudon) can't drive. Randy was been a gentleman about this and said if Phil can drive he will book off with no hard feelings," Carr told WEG's media department.
"If Randy drives him on Saturday because Phil (Hudon) isn't available and wins with him, Randy will be driving him in the Metro (eliminations). Simple as that," Carr commented.
