According to thoroughbred trainer Derek Ryan, the popular Irish dry stout Guinness is added to the feed for of all of his horses. One thing is for certain, at least for one horse, it seems to be working.
A report by ABC News explains that Musket Man, a Ryan-trained three-year-old, has battled some of the division's best with some of the dark brew in his diet. Including a third-place finish in the recently-contested Whitney, Musket Man also notched a pair of third-place efforts in two Triple Crown races this year.
"It's the yeast,” Ryan was quoted as saying. “In Guinness that puts them (the horses) on to eat it (the feed), I think."
