Donnie Rankin visited the winner’s circle four times during Leamington Raceway’s afternoon card on Sunday afternoon (August 14).
He opened the 10-race card with a perfect two-hole trip aboard favourite Machin And Rollin ($3.60) for owner/trainer B.J. Leon of Maidstone in 2:02.2.
Rankin won Race 4 with Got Meeting ($7.30) for owner/trainer James Loosemore of Wheatley in 2:00.
Rankin won back to back dashes in Race 8 and Race 9, starting with Oldfriendskentucky ($3.60) for trainer Stephen Roberts of Melbourne, who co-owns with Laura Robers, in 1:59.1. The race was named in honour of driver Mark Williams, who just this past week reached the 5,000th win plateau. The winner’s circle was crowded with Williams’ family and friends.
In Race 9, Rankin made a quarter pole move from third to first to go on to victory with Asterism ($11.50) in 1:59 for owner Dave Woods of Essex.
Also of note on the card, Alex Lilley had a big day winning three, while Brad Fritz made a return to the track with a win in the second race. He went wire to wire aboard News Stand ($15.20) for Michael Lucier of Port Lambton and trainer Michael Carther, in 2:03.1.
It was another big day in Leamington as over 800 fans packed the stands to wager $30,899.
Racing will continue next Sunday. Post time for the program will be 1:30 p.m.
