Windemere Skye extended her perfect career record to 18-for-18 on Friday, Aug. 14 with another P.E.I. Colt Stakes Gold victory at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
In her closest race to date, Windemere Skye and driver Marc Campbell fought off Serenity Now (Jason Hughes) to win a $18,850 Gold division in 1:54.4 by three-quarters of a length. The Earl Watts-trained daughter of Somewhere Fancy-Howmac Missy recorded her sixth victory of the season as she re-took command from Serenity Now after a :27.3 opening quarter and cruised through middle splits of :56.4 and 1:26.3 before fending off her resurgent rival from the pocket in the stretch. Covered In Purple (Gilles Barrieau) finished more than five lengths behind in third.
Scratched from her last scheduled appearance in an Atlantic Sires Stakes on July 24 at Truro Raceway, Windemere Skye was back in action for the first time in four weeks with the addition of Lasix and was sent postward as the overwhelming 1-9 favourite. She paid $2.20 to win.
Windemere Skye has never tasted defeat through two seasons of racing. Her undefeated two-year-old campaign in 2025 earned her a nomination for an O’Brien Award. She's banked $177,783 lifetime for breeder Windemere Farms of Springvale, P.E.I. and co-owner Matt Burke of Stratford, P.E.I.
Mysterious Ways ($19.50) delivered an upset in the second Gold division, winning by a head in 1:56.2 for driver Jason Hughes and trainer Stephen Quinn. Elm Grove Uncannie (Ken Murphy) finished second while Going For Blood (Kenny Arsenault) crossed the wire third but was placed sixth for causing interference to Beach Jewels (David Dowling). Alwaysinfullforce (Barrieau) was elevated to third.
Locally owned by John and Anna-Grace Quinn, the Blood Money-Mistreos miss earned her third win in a row and now has seven career victories from 23 starts, good for earnings of $55,437.
The first of six $9,425 P.E.I. Colt Stakes Grassroots divisions for three-year-old pacing fillies was won by U Bettim Eazy ($4.50) and Gilles Barrieau as they led all the way in 1:56.3 for trainer Chris MacKay. The Tobago Cays-Bettim Laura filly is owned by Jeffrey Lilley, Donald Josey and Blair MacLauchlan of Charlottetown, P.E.I., and Douglas Lowthers of Inverness, N.S.
Effie May Cay ($2.60) dominated her Grassroots division by 6-1/2 lengths in a career-best 1:57 mile with Marc Campbell catch-driving for trainer Walter Walker. Donald MacEachern of Upper Margaree, N.S. owns the daughter of Tobago Cays-Tymal Majorette.
Barrieau returned to the winner’s circle with Isle Mach Da Money ($2.10), who powered away from her competition by seven lengths in 1:56. Barrieau trains and drives the Tobago Cays-Mach The Cut filly for owner David Lund of Moncton, N.B.
Starship Sundancer ($35.50) produced the largest upset among the Grassroots winners with a career-best 1:56.1 score. Paul Langille supplied the winning drive aboard the Somewhere Fancy-Romance In Camelot filly for trainer Watts and owner Claude Poirier of Havre-Aux-Maisons, Que.
Mattnificent Rose ($2.80) prevailed by a head over Hatchling (Marc Campbell), stopping the clock in a lifetime-best 1:56.1 for driver Langille and trainer Luke Burke. Rebecca Horton of Milton Station, P.E.I. and Jessie Brewer of Martock Windsor, N.S. share ownership of the Tobago Cays-Mattadors Rose filly with MacLauchlan and Lilley.
Howmac Fancy ($12.30) closed out the Grassroots action with a 1:57.1 career-best victory for driver Corey MacPherson and trainer Kyle Williams. James Trainor of Ellerslie, P.E.I. and Williams of Coleman, P.E.I. own the daughter of Somewhere Fancy-Clare Hall Hanover.
Cafe De Flore ($2.30) captured the $8,000 MacDonald Family Pace for two-year-old pacing fillies. Ken Murphy guided the daughter of Stay Hungry-Jennys Terrors to a 2:03.3 maiden-breaking victory by a quarter-length over Dancin Lady Lou (Mike McGuigan), with Wicked Vicki (Keith Legge) third. Saul Lanigan trains and co-owns the filly with Dever Pickard and Ben Lanigan of Stratford, P.E.I.
Langille led all drivers on the 15-race card with five victories while Barrieau recorded a driving triple and Marc Campbell also visited the winner’s circle three times.
With Old Home Week underway, live harness racing continues on Saturday at 5 p.m. (ADT) at Red Shores Charlottetown with the three $15,000 Gold Cup & Saucer trials.
