Tioga Downs played host to two divisions of the New York Sire Stakes (NYSS) for two-year-old trotting colts & geldings on Saturday (Aug. 13).
Crown won the $53,500 first NYSS division.
Kierkegaard K was first to the quarter in :28. Crown went on by and led with a lap to go. He was first to the half in :57.1 and to three-quarters in 1:26.2. As they made the turn for home, the battle was for second as Crown won easily in 1:55.4. The Gruffalo beat out Kierkegaard K for second.
Crown is a colt by Chapter Seven-Amour Heiress. He is owned by S R F Stable and trained by Marcus Melander. He is a perfect three-for three in his career. He raced for purse money only. Brian Sears sat in the sulky.
Tillios Action captured the $53,500 second division.
Kilgore S led to the quarter in :28. Wild Bill Kelso took control as they went by the stands for the first time and was first to the half in :57. Tillios Action made his move going first over from fifth. Wild Bill Kelso was first to three-quarters in 1:26.2. As they made the turn for home, Tillios Action zoomed right on by and won going away in his first start in 1:56.3. Cecil Hanover came up late to finish second. Sevecheetah finished third.
Tioga Downs returns to live racing on Sunday (Aug. 14) with an 11-race card starting at 1 p.m. (EDT).
