After being elevated to victory in last week's Open Trot, Margaret Spagnola trainee Cartier Volo used a sustained attack to repeat in Tuesday's (Aug. 13) $15,000 feature at Saratoga Casino Hotel.
Frank Coppola Jr. sat behind the five-year-old Cash Hall mare, who moved first-over past the half to strike the lead in a 1:27 three-quarter time before holding of a late bid from Wings Of Royalty (Jay Randall). The lone lady in the field, Cartier Volo stopped the timer in 1:56.1 for her fourth win of the season and paid $48.80 to win. Wings Of Royalty was second, while Mugshots Bro (Jimmy Devaux) finished third.
The exacta and triple in the six-horse Open returned $232 and $534, respectively.
Coppola piloted four winners on the card, including one with the Kyle Spagnola-trained Waiting On A Woman, a dead-heat winner with rival Notmeitsyou (Phil Fluet) in the sub-featured $12,500 Winners-Over trot.
Live racing continues on Wednesday evening with a first post time set for 7:05 p.m.
