ATSS Highlights CDP Double Header

The matinee portion of Tuesday’s double header at the Charlottetown Driving Park featured four divisions – two for rookies and a pair for sophomores - of the Atlantic Sires Stakes for trotting colts and geldings.

Oceanview Kate kicked things off with a career-best score of 2:02.3 in the first division for the three-year-olds. The co-ed event saw Rash Statement roll the field through first-half panels of :29.3 and 1:01.1 before giving way to Oceanview Kate at the three-quarter pole. Oceanview Kate then used a :30.4 closing quarter to prevail by 1-1/4 lengths over West River Xcel, with Rash Statement fading to third.

Mike Stevenson mapped out the winning trip for the daughter of Northern Bailey-King Kong Kate, who is owned and trained by Bill Roloson of Belfast, PEI. It was her third win of the year from four trips to the track, and it improved her overall record to 7-1-1 from 13 assignments. She’s stashed away more than $23,000 in her career.

Taliesin is now 4-for-4 to start the season thanks to his 2:04 tally in the second division. The son of Northern Bailey-Southview Leah led through calls of :30.3, 1:01.3 and 1:32.4 for trainer/driver Marc Campbell before cruising home in :31.1 to win by 6-3/4 lengths. Topway was second, with Northern Trapper rounding out the top three finishers in the $7,400 affair.

Buntainwood Farm of Brackley Beach, PEI owns the eight-time winner who now boasts a bankroll that stands at $30,163.

Bo Digger got the job done in his $7,400 division for the two-year-olds, and it represented his first win in four starts for trainer/driver Marc Campbell. The son of Bo W-Ho Lees Somolli tracked from the two-hole while B J Comanche threw down first-half panels of :32 and 1:03.4. Bo Digger went into attack mode in the third quarter, and he dug in deep to win by three-quarters of a length over his pacesetting foe in 2:06.3. Glencove Yoshi was a distant third.

Zackery MacEwen of Stratford, PEI owns the career winner of $3,750.

Dusty Lane Galaxy extended his winning streak to three-in-a-row thanks to his 2:07 triumph in the second division for driver Gary Chappel and trainer Stacey Lund. The son of PJs Nabby-Starinthesky hammered out fractions of :32.3, 1:05 and 1:36 before cruising home in a :31-second clip to win by 1-1/4 lengths over Phantom Beau. Seanchai took home the show dough in the $7,400 contest.

It was a career-best performance for the youngster who is owned by Peter Buchanan of North Wiltshire and the Estate of George L Boswall of Frenchfort, PEI. The lion’s share of the purse boosted his earnings to $8,982.

The evening portion of Tuesday’s double header featured the second leg of the Alpine Claiming Series, with two divisions for the ladies and two for the guys.

Veronicavermillion (1:55.4) and Dontcallmeprincess (1:57.2) prevailed in the two tilts for the fillies and mares while Busters Brother (1:59) and Cam Cool (1:56.2) got the job done against their male counterparts.

The finals for those events are scheduled for Saturday evening – with the ladies chasing a purse of $7,100 while the men go after $7,500.
