It turned out to be a night to remember for Richard Moreau on Monday, as the Quebec native scored five training wins from six starters during Grand River Raceway’s 12-race card.
Zorgwijk Jock kicked off Moreau’s winsome night. The six-year-old trotter was two lengths the best in 1:57.4 for his third win of the season. Stablemate Partyatyourplace set a track record of 1:55.2 last week but settled for the runner-up spot tonight.
Trevor Henry scored the second of four driving wins on the card with Star Photo in race four. The heavy favourite was parked to the quarter, cleared and drew away to win by three lengths. It was his ninth win from 19 starts this year.
Four-year-old Mach It Big made his ninth trip to the winner’s circle this year and pushed his career earnings over $200,000 with a 1:53.4 score in Race 7.
Mach Of Ballykeel was the feature race winner for Moreau and driver Dan Clements. He sat fifth in the $11,000 Preferred #2 field of six, tipped three-wide at three-quarters and jogged to a seven-length win in 1:53.3. It was pacer’s third win of the season.
Monarch Seelster rounded out the Moreau victories in Race 11. Leaving from post seven, he battled with race favourite My Friend Justin and cleared in the stretch to win by two lengths in 2:00.3.
Moreau’s only non-winning start tonight was with Thehouseisrockin. The favourite in race eight, the chestnut trotter made a break after the start of the race and finished seventh.
The Puslinch, ON resident is the nation’s top dash-winning conditioner with 173 wins in 2012. He’s also well ahead of the competition in the Grand River standings with 22 wins.
