First Gold Cup & Saucer Trial To Giddy Up Delight

Giddy Up Delight was a gate-to-wire winner in the first of three $12,500 Gold Cup & Saucer Trials featured this weekend at Charlottetown Driving Park

.

With Anthony MacDonald driving for trainer Joey Shea in Saturday night's trial, Giddy Up Delight left from the inside post position and circled the half-mile oval hitting marks of :27.4, :56 and 1:24.2 along the way.

Power Off (Gilles Barrieau) journeyed first over and moved within reach in the stretch but made a costly break leaving Giddy Up Delight in the clear to score in 1:52.1. Awestreos (John MacDonald) finished two and a quarter lengths behind in second over pocket-sitter Proven Lover (Gary Chappell).

Giddy Up Delight paid $4.50 to win as the popular choice. The four-year-old gelded son of Bettors Delight-Mollin Hanover is owned by David Shea of Campbellville, ON. He picked up his 11th win in 24 starts this season and watched his earnings climb to $168,318. Lifetime, Giddy Up Delight now sports 13 wins on his record and $211,778 in earnings.

The second trial for the 51st edition of the Sobeys Gold Cup & Saucer will be held on Sunday with the third trial set for Monday. The top three finishers in each trial will advance to the $60,000 final set for Saturday, August 21.
