A four-horse accident in Saturday's third race at Kawartha Downs caused driver Doug Brown to book off his remaining drives on the card and one in Sunday's Ontario Sires Stakes Gold Final at Rideau Carleton Raceway

.

Hot As Ice, with Brown in the bike, made a break in the stretch from first over and went down. The trailing horses Dunum Up Right (Doug Hie), Soyer (Fred Brethour) and Wishiweregrey (Brad Rae) were also involved and did not finish, but reports from Kawartha indicate they escaped serious injuries.

Brown was able to roll himself to safety off track until the ambulance arrived. He was hit in his lower back by Dunum Up Right's knee during the accident and was shaken up and stiff. As a result, he booked off his remaining drives.

Hie, Brethour and Rae were uninjured and returned to action.

Jarretts Boy (Richard Webb) and Dreamway Dexter (Dagfin Henriksen) were also interfered with and broke stride, but did complete the race.

Trot Insider has learned that Brown will also be booking off his drive aboard Joanne and Stuart Firlotte's Pearl Handlepistol in Sunday's Ontario Sires Stakes Gold Final for two-year-old pacing fillies at Rideau Carleton Raceway.

"Unfortunately, Doug woke up too stiff and sore to make the trip to Rideau tonight," said Doug's wife, Nancy. "He contacted Anthony Haughan and he will be driving Stew's filly in tonight's final."
