After doing all the roadwork and getting nipped at the wire in last week’s $9,000 Open Pace at Century Downs, Cool Cowboy bounced back with a front-stepping score in Monday’s main event for trainer/driver Jim Marino.
Marino hustled Cool Cowboy to the lead from Post 3 and together they led the field through panels of :27.2, :57.1 and 1:24.2. A :28-second closing quarter was enough for the pacer to seal the deal by 1-1/4 lengths over Iwontdothatagain in 1:52.2. Outrageous Art tagged along to grab the show dough.
Sent off at odds of 4-1, the six-year-old son of Brandons Cowboy-Cool Grin scored the victory for Marino and the J J J Stables of Prince George, BC. It was the fourth win of the season – and the 24th to date – for the career winner of $320,348.
