To say Team Allard is loaded for bear in this year’s Gold Cup & Saucer would be a gross understatement.
On the heels of Somewhere Fancy’s triumph in Trial 1 on Saturday evening, stablemate Bet On Brett was a front-stepping winner in Trial 2 on the Monday evening program for trainer Rene Allard and driver Louis Philippe Roy.
The newly acquired speedster shot to the top and carved out fractions of :27.2, :56.1 and 1:24.1 before using a :27.1 closing panel to seal the deal in 1:51.2. Lincolnjames, who came first-over on the eventual winner, held on gamely to finish second. ASAP Hanover was third, with Always N The Money finishing fourth.
Sent off as the 4-5 favourite, the four-year-old son of Sportswriter-Tug River Della posted the win for Red Isle Racing, Donald MacRae, Steven MacRae and Allard Racing Inc. The pacer has banked close to $120,000 to date.
Post positions for the final of the Gold Cup & Saucer will be drawn tomorrow evening at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
