A pair of Pennsylvania Sire Stakes races for three-year-old colt and gelding trotters went postward Sunday afternoon (August 13) at Harrah’s Philadelphia, and both Moonshiner Hanover and Meteoric emerged victorious after their respective tilts.
The $70,715 first division was won by the Chris Beaver-trained Moonshiner Hanover, who was driven by Andy Miller. The son of Andover Hall-Credit Winner wasted little time getting involved, as he went to the front, cut all the fractions (:26.4, :56.4 and 1:24.2) en-route to a lifetime-best mile of 1:53.3. Snowstorm Hanover (driven by Tyler Buter) rallied for second, while Sir John F (Yannick Gingras) finished third. It was the fourth career win for Moonshiner Hanover, who know has career earnings of roughly $375,000. Moonshiner Hanover is owned by Synerco Ventures, Bill Manes and Chris Beaver.
The $71,115 second division was won by upsetter Meteoric, who was driven by Andy McCarthy. The gelded son of Explosive Matter-Must Be Hot brushed to the front end and drew off to win by over two lengths in 1:53.3. Muscles Jared (Chris Lems) finished second, while Shake It Off Lindy (Simon Allard) was third. The victory was the fifth career tally for the Richard Johnson trainee, who now has earnings in excess of $120,000. Meteoric is owned by Mahlon Martin and David Hoover.
In other news, veteran pacer Tell Us More (George Napolitano Jr.) won his tenth consecutive race on Sunday in a $20,000 - $25,000 claiming event. There were seven claims filed on the seven-year-old gelded son of Tell All-Liberated Leah. He was claimed for $6,000 back on January 11 at the Meadows. Since then, he has won 15 of 18 races for seven different trainers. His new owner is Betty Tauber and he is now trained by Mike Russo.
