Captain Tate tore out of the pocket to take the $3,000 Frank MacInnis Memorial on Wednesday, Aug. 12 at Inverness Raceway as the sophomore ascended to the Winners Over Pace level amid a run of strong results.

Walter Walker hustled the colt off the car but was met with a resistant Mcland and dropped his charge into second heading to the quarter in :29.1. Mcland widened his margin going to the :58.4 half, and Captain Tate also split from the rest as he reeled in the pacesetter on the way to three-quarters in 1:27.4. Captain Tate tipped out turning for home and powered clear of Mcland down the stretch to score in 1:57.1. Talk Some Smack (Rod Gillis) took second, 1-3/4 lengths behind the winner, after sprinting by Mcland in deep-stretch.

Captain Tate rose to the Winners Over level on the back of three straight wins, bringing his 2026 record to nine-for-13 after going winless in five tries as a freshman. Walker trains the Captain Crunch-Ginger Tree Nina colt, who has now earned $7,341 for James MacInnis of Halifax, N.S. The winner returned $13.10.
