Hughes Dominates At Red Shores

As track announcer Vance Cameron said ‘It Is Blue Knight night’ Thursday at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park as Jason Hughes won five races on the evening.

Hughes started the action off in the first dash of the 10-race program winning with Mystical Gal in a 2:01.3 maiden score from the Oakes stable of Warren Grove. Dusty Lane Apollo had his first trip to the winner’s circle in Race 2 in 2:04.1 for driver Hughes and Charlottetown trainer Danny MacDonald.

Newcomer Michele Z Tam won Race 3 in 1:57.4 and Girl In A Tavern was a 1:59.3 winner in Race 4 for trainer/driver Hughes. ‘The Blue Knight’ found his final winner in Race 7 as Incredible Two won in 2:00.3 from the Kenny Arsenault stable. The five-win performance moves Hughes into second place on the Red Shores Charlottetown driver’s scoreboard with 39 wins on the season.

Fluentocity was on top of a huge upset in the featured pace in Race 9 with Marc Campbell steering the Blaine Baglole trainee to a 1:56.4 win from post 8 at odds of 42-1.

Fluentocity got away last in the $2,300 event and circled the field to win by a length over Miss Kabana (Driven by Brodie MacPhee), while Dustylane Zambucca (Corey MacPherson) was third.

Baglole shares ownership of the winning daughter of Well Said with his son, and fellow Cornwall resident, Shane Baglole.

Gold Cup Week racing ramps into high gear Saturday with an afternoon program at 1 p.m. featuring the Atlantic Sires Stakes for three-year-old pacing fillies and a 7 p.m. night card with the first two trials of The Guardian Gold Cup and Saucer.
