Final Preps For NA Cup Eligibles

Trot Insider continues to track the contenders and eligibles as they prepare for the 2020 Pepsi North America Cup just one week out from elimination weekend.

This year's edition of the $1 million Pepsi North America Cup will take place on Saturday, Aug. 29 at Woodbine Mohawk Park. The eliminations will be held a week prior, with the box for the eliminations closing on Tuesday (Aug. 18).

For the past several years, Trot Magazine's Pepsi North America Cup Spring Book has served as an initial barometer for the colts and geldings that may be in the running for the sophomore pacing set's single biggest payday. As in past years, the Spring Book appeared in the April issue of Trot.

A number of the major contenders for the 2020 Pepsi North America Cup could be in action this weekend both north and south of the border. The 2020 Carl Milstein Memorial at MGM Northfield Park on Saturday (Aug. 15) features four NA Cup-eligible sophomores. Tioga Downs was slated to host eliminations for the 2020 Empire Breeders Classic on Sunday, but only 10 horses declared and thus all 10 advance to the $240,600 Final on Aug. 23, one day after the North America Cup eliminations.

The Ontario Sires Stakes heads to Rideau Carleton Raceway on Sunday (Aug. 16), with many top local three-year-olds heading to the nation's capital. The entry box for this card closed on Thursday morning.
