Starcastic captured the Dr. Blair Kelly Memorial Pace Friday evening at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Gilles Barrieau scored the winning drive over the rain-soaked capital oval in 1:58.3 in the $2,350 event for trainer Jackie Matheson and owners Bobbi Jo Gaudet of Charlottetown and Billy MacKenzie of Stratford, PE.
Iron Phil (Louis Philippe Roy) laid down the early fractions of :29, :58.1 and 1:29 to end up second with Starcastic using a second-over trip to score the length victory with Waterside Light (Marc Campbell) finishing third.
Barrieau and Matheson also teamed up for the win with Mozartsplace in 1:59 for owners Brad Duplisea and Shawn McAdam, both of Charlottetown, PE.
Jason Hughes had a driving double on the program, visiting the winner’s circle with Fleurje after a 2:00.2 victory and Beckenbauer with a 2:01.2 win.
Old Home Week racing continues Saturday in Charlottetown with a doubleheader on tap with a 1 p.m. post time for the afternoon card and a 7 p.m. post time for the evening program featuring Sobey's Gold Cup and Saucer Trial 1.
