Alpine Claiming Series Begins Thursday

Thursday night promises to be a lively card of racing at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

First race post time is 7 p.m. for the 12-dash program that will serve as the lead in to Old Home Week 2015.

The feature of the night is the first leg of the Alpine $4,000 claiming series. Mortal Combat appears to be the heavyweight of the three $1,750 horse and gelding divisions with Marc Campbell listed to drive the five-year-old son of Tell All from post six in race six of the evening. Rene Allard trains Mortal Combat, who ships in from Pennsylvania.

The first horse and gelding claiming series division is in race two with P L Faststrike the classifier’s choice from post six in the field of half-a-dozen with Gilles Barrieau in the bike for trainer Adam Merner and owners Blenise Young of Long Point, N.S. and Jeffrey Campbell of Calgary, Alta.

The morning line choice in race 10 is Cam Cool in another horse and gelding split with Campbell in the bike for trainer Jim Copley and owner Ann Copley of Inverness, N.S.

Two divisions of the Alpine $4,000 claiming series for fillies and mares are also slated on the card with the queen of the Charlottetown claiming mares leading the way in the first division in race four. C L La Rousse has rail control in the $1,750 event with Jason Hughes in the bike for trainer and co-owner Reg Ferguson and co-owner Paula MacPhee, both of Charlottetown.

The other fillies and mares split is in race eight with Cape Breton invader Dontcallmeprincess the morning line choice for trainer Walter Walker and owner Kayla Habicht Walker, both of Inverness. The post six starter has Barrieau listed to drive.

A 12-dash program is scheduled for Friday evening with a 7 p.m. start time. That card will serve as the official opener of Old Home Week 2015.
