After having lowered the World Record for three-year-old pacing geldings on a five-eighths mile track in the Delvin Miller Adios on July 30, the Tony O'Sullivan-trained Alsace Hanover resurfaced for the first time Friday morning during the qualifying session at Mohawk Racetrack
.
With driver Scott Zeron calling the shots, Alsace Hanover, the hard-closing son of The Panderosa, lined up in Post 4 for Race 6.
Zeron opted to place the career winner of eight of 16 races and $542,000 in purses in third early, as Canadian Breeders Championship winner Camaes Fellow (driven by Luc Ouellette) clicked off the opening quarter in :29.2.
Zeron and his mount remained in third as Ouellette and Camaes Fellow led the field past the :58.1 opening half.
Zeron had Alsace Hanover out and pacing on the final turn. They clicked off three quarters in 1:26.4 while overland. The duo was well on their way to victory in the lane, as they had opened up a three-length lead by the seven-eighths-mile marker.
Completing his 27-second final quarter, Alsace Hanover hit the wire first in 1:53.4. The winning margin was three and a quarter lengths over Camaes Fellow, who was making her charted debut for new connections.
Camaes Fellow, who was previously owned by driver Luc Ouellette, Larry Murrell and trainer Chris Beaver, now races out of O'Sullivan's barn for Frank Bellino. The three-year-old Mach Three gelding was sold after his 1:50.2 victory from Post 9 in the Canadian Breeders Championships on July 23
Quantum Victoria (1:58.1), Musicale Hanover (1:57.2), Here Comes Numbers (1:58), Miss Mojo (1:57), Winbak Dior (2:00.2), Fin (1:59.1) and See The Judge (1:56) were the other victorious horses during the qualifying session.
