The 100th edition of the Fox Stake, once the premier two-year-old pace in the country, and other open-to-the-world events will be raced on Wednesday, Aug. 12 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.
From the inaugural race won by Red Pluto in 2:06 in 1927, the list of winners has included four that went on to win U.S. Horse of the Year honours: Good Time, Torpid, Bret Hanover and Albatross. More recently, The Chosen One, who was bred, owned, trained and driven by Indiana connections Denise Dennis and her husband Jeff Edwards, won the 2002 edition.
Also on the card, the seasonally undefeated trotting gelding Dan D Man Can stars in the 117th edition of The Horseman. He is one of 20 horses entered on the card by Indiana State Fair-based trainer Erv Miller.
Two-year-old Kountry Legacy, daughter of the great mare Shartin N, is seeking her third victory in five starts for owners Pollack Racing LLC and Jeff Cullipher in the Hoosier Stake.
Drivers from the ages of 18 to 76 will start on the card, with youngster Kevin Detweiler and veteran Dan Shetler Jr. set to face off in the third race.
