On Friday (Aug. 11), Fiddlers Creek Stable announced the retirement of MGM Messenger Stakes victor American Courage.
American Courage raced eight times as a freshman, yielding $180,258 in earnings from seven wins and a mark of 1:51.3. He took a mark of 1:49.4 as a sophomore, winning five of 11 races including the $500,000 Messenger at Yonkers Raceway, while earning $539,122.
Trained primarily by Travis Alexander, American Courage (American Ideal - Nota Fool Bluechip) took his lifetime mark of 1:47.4 as a four-year-old at Pocono Downs. He won multiple Opens as an older competitor, finishing his racing career with a tally of 18-6-2 in 44 starts along with $848,892 in earnings.
After performing on the track, as well as in the breeding shed in 2023, his future will be exclusively focused on stallion duties at Blue Chip Farms in Wallkill, New York.
