There was no looking back for Adkins Hanover as he dominated the feature event Friday evening at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park as Old Home Week racing officially kicked off.
Adkins Hanover and Kenny Arsenault were serious from the word 'go,' laying down fractions of :27.2, :55.4 and 1:25.1 before finishing the mile in 1:54.1 for trainer Trevor Hicken and owner Perry Burke of Grosse-Ile, Que. Intended Royalty (driven by Gilles Barrieau) was second with Likely To Win (Adam Merner) completing the triactor.
Stephane Brosseau enjoyed his short stay for Old Home Week 2017 as he was victorious in the Dr. Blair Kelly Memorial, presented by the Charlottetown Veterinary Clinic. The Quebec driver visited the winner's circle with Brussebeach in 1:56.1 for trainer and co-owner Harold Duguay and fellow Quebec resident Dr. John Bradbury. Brosseau returns to Quebec five wins shy of 3,000 lifetime.
Brandon Webster recorded the fastest win of his young driving career with a 1:56.4 score in race seven with Shock The Rock for trainer Blair MacLeod and owner Bethany MacLeod of New Dominion, P.E.I.
Twomacsoneshadow captured the James Aylward Leadership Pace in 1:58.1 with Barrieau in the bike for trainer Earl Watts and owners Wayne MacRae of Fall River, N.S., and Howmacs Farms Ltd., of North Wiltshire, P.E.I. It was one of two wins on the card for Barrieau while driver Marc Campbell extended his Charlottetown driving lead with two more wins for 74 wins so far this season.
Live racing continues at Red Shores with a Saturday doubleheader with cards at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. as Old Home Week racing continues.
