Freddie Still The Man Out East

Start number 100 for older trotting gelding Freddie provided the result most frequent over his racing career: a first-place finish.

Competing in the afternoon card that was previously scheduled for Thursday night at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park, Freddie was favoured in the seventh race feature, the $1,950 Open Trot. With regular pilot Marc Campbell at the controls, Freddie got away in fourth during the early stages as Stan The Man (Jason Hughes) tried to to play a little catch-me-if-you-can on the front end through a spicy :28.2 opening panel and :57.2 half.

Campbell was first up from fourth at this point, more than six lengths off the lead. That margin would narrow quickly over the third stanza as Stan The man couldn't keep up that tempo and would be fronted by Freddie through the 1:28.3 third panel. After clearing, Freddie would open up his lead with every stride. A five-plus length advantage widened to more than seven by the wire, reached in 1:58.4.

Trained by Bo Ford for the Three Wisemen Stable of Kingston, PEI, Freddie (Majestic Son - Circe Hanover) sports a 4-2-0 summary from seven seasonal starts with lifetime earnings now exceeding $123,000.

The card also featured the opening leg of the Alpine $5,000 Claiming Series, with two divisions contested and both winners boasting sizable win margins. Young Man Matt opened the action with five-length score in 1:57.1, followed by Shanghai B G winning his leg in 1:57.4 by six lengths.

Old Home Week racing continues Friday night and kicks into high gear Saturday with a double-header program featuring the Atlantic Sires Stakes for three-year-old pacing fillies during the 1:00 P.M. program, and The Guardian Gold Cup and Saucer Trial 1 presented by Bounty Print headlining the 7:00 P.M. evening card.
