Kiss My Cheek turned over a new leaf for the start of the new month, winning her first race at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Tuesday (Aug. 1) evening and banking the winner's share of the $17,000 purse.
Shawn Steacy trains the two-year-old McWicked-Twin B Cheeks pacer as she outshined her freshman classmates on the card after posting the fastest time of the three races dedicated to the young pacers.
Leaving from post seven, Jonathan Drury and Kiss My Cheek settled in for the pocket trip behind favoured Wednesday (Doug McNair) as the panels were clicked out in :26.1 and :54.2. Drury pulled his right line to send Kiss My Cheek forward and they were a half length in front of Wednesday at the three-quarters in 1:25. Kiss My Cheek kept on rolling to a 5-3/4 length achievement in 1:53.1. Le Bec Fin (Scott Young) took second and Millies Spirit (Ed Hensley) rounded out the top three.
After a fifth-place finish in her career debut, it was her first win in two starts. Katherine Steacy, David McDonald, Malik Stable and Bertrand Gilhespy Stable make up the partnership behind Kiss My Cheek. She paid $7.40 to win.
Twin B Empress (Always B Miki-Twin B Exquisite) impressed in her own $17,000 class of freshmen, winning her career debut in 1:54.
Twin B Empress grabbed the early lead in her field of seven with Sylvain Filion in the bike for Kevin Benn. She led to the quarter in :27.4 before Pretty Missy May (Louis-Philippe Roy) and Wicked Leader (Trevor Henry) claimed the top two leading spots. Pretty Missy May led to the half in :56.3 with Filion waiting until just after the half to make his first-over advance. As the field passed the three-quarters in 1:26, Twin B Empress was still sitting third on the outside. She faced Pretty Missy May down the stretch where they battled to the wire. Twin B Empress won by a neck over Pretty Missy May. Make Out With Me (James MacDonald) rallied off of a break and from last to grab third.
She paid a $6.50 ticket after winning her debut start for the ownership of Kevin Benn, Leo Fleming and Dennis Chadwick.
Rick Zeron trainee Sweet Report topped off the two-year-old pacing filly action, winning her share of the $17,000 pot.
Tyler Borth and Sweet Report were quick to the lead from post five and sent the field to the quarter in :28.2. Kittys Column (Tyler Jones) took over to lead to the half in :58.3 and three-quarters in 1:27.2, but Sweet Report battled back around the final turn. Down the lane, Sweet Report secured her victory by 1-1/2 lengths in 1:54.4. Quite Beachy (James MacDonald) finished second and Premier Heiress (Scott Young) rounded out the triactor.
Owned by Rick Zeron Stables, Howard Taylor, Johnny Marvento and Hutt Racing Stable, the daughter of Sportswriter-Sweet Bonnie earned her first win in three tries. She paid $15.20 to win.
