Kicking off cover around the final turn, Esquire slid to victory in the $13,000 Preferred 2 Trot at Georgian Downs on Sunday (Aug. 1).

Sicario set the tempo to a :26.4 first quarter and slowed to a :56.2 half, where Jumpshot pulled first over and Esquire followed in tow. Jumpshot pressed Sicario to three-quarters in 1:25.1 and the pair continued to battle around the final turn before coming to a halt in the stretch. Driver Colin Kelly swung Esquire off a helmet coming into the stretch and took over command while holding off a late charge from I Got The Looks to win by three-quarter lengths in 1:55.4. Darkangeldesbois F finished third.

An eight-year-old gelding by Kadabra, Esquire won his third race from 10 starts this season and his 20th from 91 overall, earning $197,346. Mark Goddard trains the $5.30 winner for owner Brandon Guerra.
