Stonebridge Mac’s dominant win in the sole colt-and-gelding division highlighted the first two-year-old trotting Prospect Series action of the season on Wednesday, July 9 at Grand River Raceway on a track labeled fast despite the rainfall.
The Green Manalishi S-Stonebridge Encore colt led all the way for Trevor Henry, rolling right to the top in the $8,000 contest and setting fractions of :30, 1:01.1, and 1:31.2 before cruising home to a 4-1/2-length victory in 2:01.2. Northern Genius (Travis Henry) finished second, followed by Lifting Legend (Austin Sorrie). Stonebridge Mac, a $59,000 London Classic Yearling Sale purchase, is trained by Scott McEneny, who co-owns him with Aristi Varsakis. He returned $17.10.
In another 7-1 upset, Massive Victory (Muscle Mass-Victors Vicky) took the $8,000 Prospect Series dash for two-year-old trotting fillies. She assumed command at the quarter in :30.1, put up 1:01.2 and 1:32.1 middle panels, and won in 2:02.2 by 1-1/4 lengths over favourite Life Is Great (Trevor Henry) with Tymal Envy (Gino Toscani) third. Travis Henry piloted the winning $27,778 Harrisburg purchase for trainer Blake MacIntosh and owners Hutt Racing Stable, Penny Of Hope Stables, Ozzie Mackay, and Stuart McIntosh. The filly is one-for-two lifetime.
The next Prospect Series legs for both sexes of rookie trotters are set for Sunday, July 20 at Dresden Raceway.
