Driver Shawn Lynk celebrated his 40th birthday in style, having his picture taken at the wire and in the Northside Downs' winners circle on Saturday (July 9) courtesy older pacer Revenant.
Starting from the rail in the $1,600 Winners Over feature and sent off as the near 6-5 choice, Revenant ($4.30) had seemingly one major obstacle standing in his way on Saturday: a red-hot A Better Man, starting two spots over in post three for Gerard Kennedy. Those two older pacers locked horns heading into the opening turn, but that insider lane allowed Revenant to retain control of the tempo. Lynk allows Revenant to ramble through fractions of :27.4, :57.4 and 1:27.2, with a 30-second closer more than enough to dispose of his foes and trip the timer in 1:57.2. Gentry Seelster (Larry Snow) stayed for second after a first-over approach, 4-1/2 length back of the winner and a half-length better than third place A Better Man.
Now a four-time winner in 2022 after winning just twice in 2021, eight-year-old Revenant (If I Can Dream - Dragonfest) is owned by Kyla MacDonald of Stanhope, P.E.I., Tyler Lynk of Port Morien and Colby Lynk of Reserve Mines, N.S. In 99 career starts, Revenant sports a 17-10-16 summary with more than $45,000 in earnings.
