The fans at Buffalo Raceway are getting to watch and enjoy the maturation process of Allie as she took another big step up the ladder in getting a come from behind half length victory over Noble Legend in a lifetime best 1:57.2 in the $8,600 Class A-B Handicapped Trot on Friday night.
Allie, lone mare in the field of seven, stunned the fellas with a $16.80 win price with Kyle Cummings in the sulky. After winning 11 of 14 starts last season, Allie has now won two in a row and three times in nine appearances on the season.
After Stormont Rare cleared to the lead and put up fractions of :29, :58 and 1:28.1, Noble Legend (Jim Morrill, Jr.) took over and appeared to have things in control heading down the lane. But someone forgot to tell Allie.
Trotting smartly and with ease down the center of the track, Allie breezed past a stunned Noble Legend while Franks Watching (Ray Fisher, Jr.) collected the show spot. A :28.4 last quarter mile did the trick for Allie.
Co-owned by trainer Margaret Butler, Amy Butler and Terry Lillenthal, Allie (Conway Hall-Highway Cash) has produced $15,090 in winnings on the campaign and $36,508 lifetime.
Major Authority ($3.80) was definitely the 'boss' in the co-featured $8,600 Class B Pace by striding out to a three quarter length victory over Silver Arrow in 1:56.4.
After relinquishing the lead early, Major Authority (Morrill, Jr.) stayed in the pocket and watched Obo Hanover stomp out splits of :29.3, 1:00 and 1:28.3.
Silver Arrow took the lead nearing the top of the stretch and Major Authority followed that cover as heads turned for home. There was little doubt going to the wire who was in command as Major Authority blitzed a :27,4 final panel and cruised off for the victory while Silver Arrow (David McNeight III) was second and Jimmy C R (Kyle Cummings) grabbed the show position.
Owned by Kathleen Weller and trained by Chris Naedele, it was the third victory in 17 attempts for the six-year-old gelded Major Authority (Art Major-Lets Rock N Roll). The win moved his seasonal earnings to $20,554 and $127,767 lifetime.
Morrill, Jr. had a driving triple while Kevin Cummings added a pair on the night.
Racing will resume on Saturday evening at 6 p.m. with a nine-race program scheduled.
