Sporting a perfect three-for-three record coming into Friday’s $9,000 Fox Valley Barzgar Stake at Maywood Park, Ronald Phillips and John Carver’s Peachys Pistol figured to be the one to beat after drawing the inside post
. The good looking gelding proved to be just that as he romped to an impressive five and a half length wire-to-wire win in a North American season’s best of 1:54 for driver Ronnie Gillespie, who has been on quite a roll in these ICF stakes events.
Utilizing the inside starting spot to their full advantage, Gillespie sent the homebred two-year-old gelded son of Incredible Finale-Peachy Revrac right to the front just as he’s done in the youngsters three previous wins.
Rattling off splits of :28, :57.2 and 1:25.1, Peachy Pistol opened up a three length advantage over his eight rivals as the field headed into the final turn. With the pedal to the metal moving around the bend, Peachy Pistol continued to lengthen his advantage flying home in :28.4 to earn his fourth straight victory. Als Hammered (John De Long) rallied to finish second while NJs Big Deal (John Roberts), who tried to stage a first over challenge heading into the final turn, wound up third.
With wins in a Big 10 Stake at Decatur, an ISOBA Stake at Springfield and the Wicked Brew Stake at Balmoral, Peachys Pistol has shown that he’s quite the traveler already in his brief career. Sporting a bankroll of just over $9,000 the bay gelding, who was coupled in the wagering with Kyle Credible (eighth), returned $5.00, $2.60 and $2.40.
