It was track record time at Manitoba’s Holland Fair on Sunday (July 7), as a two-year-old that was making his pari-mutuel debut broke his maiden and instantly inserted his name into the local record book.
The two-year-old in question is the Mystery Chase colt Criminal Record, who launched an attack from third at the half in an $1,800 maiden and went on to romp by 25 lengths.
Criminal Record went on to stop the clock in 2:02, which shaved three-fifths of a second off of the track record, which had been trotted by Royals Majestic in 2004.
Jacques Lambert of St. Malo, Manitoba trains and drives Criminal Record for his co-owning partner, Ralph Morrow of Strathclair, Manitoba.
Criminal Record was purchased for $3,200 at the ASHA Yearling Sale last September.
Holland’s ten-race Sunday card also included three feature races.
Artsdestiny, who was sent postward as the longest shot on the board (7-1) in the $2,300 Fillies and Mares Open, returned $16.80 to win after she emerged victorious by a half length in 2:03.1. In the $2,100 Preferred Pace, Red Star Tiger powered to a three-length win in 2:02.3 and returned $5.30 to win. The final race of the card was the $2,800 Open Pace, and it was Outlaw Kismet that went down the road and posted a six-length win in 2:00.1. Outlaw Kismet returned $3.00 to win.
