Major Leaguer was all business for driver Jimmy Whittemore en route to capturing Saturday’s $8,000 Open Pace at Vernon Downs.
Major Leaguer ($3.00) took the lead just before the opening quarter flashed up in :26.3, and he went on to post middle splits of :55.3 and 1:23.3 before using a :28-second closing quarter to post the 1:51.3 decision over Gypsy Leather and Redhot Romeo.
Owned and trained by Whittemore, the four-year-old gelded son of Art Major nabbed his fourth win of the season and his 20th career victory.
Whittemore potted two more wins with Royal Garden N ($4.80) and Skip Jive ($10.40) to complete the Saturday hat trick.
Leon Bailey and John MacDonald each had driving doubles.
Bailey won with Always Flash N ($4.50) and Fuzzylegsandall ($7.40). MacDonald went to the winner's circle with Northern Express ($7.10) and Northeaster ($4.00).
Live racing returns to Vernon Downs on Thursday at 6:10 p.m. The 10-race card features three divisions of the New York Sire Stakes for three-year-old pacing fillies.
