After finishing out of the top three for the first time in 2017 last time out, Dreamfair Van Dam rebounded off that finish with a superb mile in the Saturday (July 8) feature at Northside Downs.
Saddled with the outermost post six in the $1,100 Winners Over Pace, Dreamfair Van Dam settled safely into third off the gate while rail horse Accelerator (Mark Pezzarello) lived up to his name and set the pace throughout. Fractions of :29.1, 1:00.3 and 1:31 were put up over the track rated 'good', with Dreamfair Van Dam first up and driving from before the half. Heading into the final turn, Dreamfair Van Dam cleared to the front and opened up some daylight on the field. That two-length lead at the top the stretch was still there at the wire as Dreamfair Van Dam was victorious in 2:02.1. Accelerator fought gamely to hold second with favoured Surrealist (Randy Getto) and Im A Sunbunnie (Kevin Bailey) dead-heating for show.
Racing under lease to trainer Heather Hawkins, Dreamfair Van Dam boasts a 4-3-1 slate from nine seasonal starts. The win, his 28th lifetime, pushed his career bankroll over $107,000.
