Lexis D J earned his second straight Preferred 2 victory on Wednesday night at Grand River Raceway.
The eight-year-old Amigo Hall gelding followed up a 1:56.2 victory in sloppy conditions on June 30 at Georgian Downs by taking Grand River's $11,000 Preferred 2 Trot this evening.
Driven by Bob McClure for trainer and owner Shane Arsenault, Lexis D J followed inside starter Stormont Kate through fractions of :28.4, :58.1 and 1:26.3 with Bouncing Bax advancing first over from third and challenging on the outside through the final half-mile. The top three separated themselves from the rest of the field with Lexis D J fanning out three-wide heading into the stretch and them sweeping by his rivals for the 1:56.4 victory. Bouncing Bax finished one length behind as the runner-up with Stormont Kate settling for third-place.
Lexis D J now has six wins in 15 starts this year and 37 victories lifetime with a bankroll of $417,652. He paid $6.30 to win as the 2-1 second choice in the wagering.
Twilight Seelster and driver J.R. Plante also prevailed off a pocket trip in the $7,500 Fillies & Mares Preferred 3 Pace. The 8-5 favourite scored in 1:55.3 over the stretch-rallying Russian Kisses and pacesetter Drivingthedragon N for trainer Larry Ainsworth and owner Brad Wilson.
