Oaklea Tyson survived a first over journey to win the $10,000 Preferred 2 Trot featured at Hiawatha Horse Park on Saturday night for driver, trainer and owner Daniel Potvin.

Rockwood, Ont. resident Potvin sent the favoured four-year-old Angus Hall gelding first up from fourth after the opening quarter mark and wore down pacesetter Herecomesthechief at the head of the lane. Oaklea Tyson then held off the hard-closing Solo Victory to win by a quarter length in 1:58 flat. CIS Buckeye edged out Herecomesthechief over two lengths behind for third.

The victory was Oaklea Tyson's second in a row and fourth of the season in 19 starts. He paid $5.80 to win.
