Sports Flix Strolls At Georgian

In a field scratched to four, Sports Flix took and held control to take the $10,500 Fillies & Mares Preferred 2 Handicap Pace at Georgian Downs on Tuesday (July 7).

Moving into post 1, Sports Flix pushed for the front while Lady Rocknrolla A parked in pursuit of command. Lady Rocknrolla A pressed for the front through fractions of :27 and :54.4 but failed to put a head in front of Sports Flix, retreating as the field moved past three-quarters in 1:24.2.

Sports Flix endured a final challenge into the stretch as race-favourite Outlaw Imahotvixen popped pocket, however the Gregg McNair trainee turned away the late foe to win by a length in 1:53.2 Outlaw Imahotvixen settled for second while Lady Rocknrolla A finished third, 11 lengths farther behind.

A four-year-old mare by Sportswriter, Sports Flix won her first race from three starts this season and her eighth from 26 overall, earning $152,554. James Fraleigh owns the $5.70 winner while Jason Ryan sat in the bike.

Later in the card, Brave World went wire to wire in the $8,500 Horses & Geldings Preferred 3 Pace, holding on to win in 1:52.2.

Driver Colin Kelly fired the six-year-old Royal Mattjesty gelding for the front while Paparazzi Hanover ducked for the pocket. The pair raced one-two through splits of :27, :55.3 and 1:24, with Paparazzi Hanover lunging for the lead into the stretch but coming a neck short of victory. About A Boy rallied for third.

Owned by Thestable Brave World GRP, Brave World won his second race from five starts this season and his 24th from 121 overall, earning $307,638. Richard Moreau trains the $5.30 winner.

The Fixer then delivered as the odds-on favourite with a wire-to-wire score in the $8,500 Preferred 3 Trot.

Leaving from the pylon post, The Fixer set a tempo of :27.3, :58 and 1:26.4 while gradually opening his lead on Eddy riding in the pocket. Ole Jack Magic angled off the pegs from third moving to the final turn but only gave chase to The Fixer through the lane as the four-year-old Trixton gelding hit the finish two-and-a-half lengths in front in a 1:55.1 mile. Northern Royale rallied for third.

Owned by 1652281 Ontario Limited, The Fixer won his third race from 11 starts this season and his ninth from 39 overall, earning $136,023. David Frey conditions the $2.90 winner while Scott Coulter sat in the sulky.
