Summertime Score For Melmerby Beach

Melmerby Beach failed to win in the preliminary legs of the Summertime Series, but he turned in a dominant performance in Monday’s $50,800 final.

With Paul MacDonell at the lines, Melmerby Beach got away sixth and watched Capozzo and Silverhill Shadow takes turns on the lead through solid fractions of :27.2, :55.1 and 1:22.3. MacDonell and Melmerby Beach tracked the cover of Blacktree around the final turn, and they exploded off that cover as the field turned for home. Melmerby Beach used a :26.4 closing quarter to win by three lengths in 1:50.1 over Silverhill Shadow. Nirvana Seelster rallied late to finish third.

Brent MacGrath trains the three-year-old son of Somebeachsomewhere-DB Blue Chip for Schooner II Stable of Bible Hill, Nova Scotia. The homebred improved this year’s record to 3-1-1 from seven starts with the win while his lifetime earnings climbed to $73,450.
