Not even a first-over journey could stop Machleen from taking home bragging rights in this week’s edition of Grand River Raceway’s $7,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred 3 for pacers.
With Trevor Henry at the controls, Machleen went into attack mode as the field marched in front of the grandstand, and she eventually worked her way to the lead by the time the group arrived at the top of the stretch. A :30.1 final quarter was more than enough for her to win by 1-1/2 lengths over Windsun Kenda in 1:55.1. Third prize went to a rallying Rachel Olivia.
Mark Austin trains the five-year-old daughter of Mach Three-Aileens Luck. The homebred, who is owned by Mark Austin Stables Inc of Fergus, Ontario, won for the third time this season – and for the 13th time in her career. The victory pushed her lifetime earnings to $206,350.
