Newcomer American Captain made his presence known to the top class at Exhibition Park Raceway as veteran Mike Campbell scored in 1:58 on the hot, humid Saturday afternoon.
Leaving from post five, Campbell sent the four-year-old son of American Ideal to the lead and got there just past the quarter pole. He set sail from there and scored an easy three-length win.
Ronald Roy of Fredericton owns American Captain, who turned away second and third-place finishers Putnams Glory and Jags Raisin.
Brothers Stephen and Todd Trites combined for five victories on the 11-dash card. Stephen had a trio of winners while Todd scored a pair of wins.
