Proving once again that she is practically an invincible force among the Illinois bred three-year-old filly trotting set, La Bella Vita Stable, Robert Taylor and Kevin Dixon’s My Miss Caroline remained undefeated among the state-bred set
as she trotted to a half-length victory in the $9,000 Sorce Ann Stakes on Wednesday at Balmoral Park. The final time was 1:58.
After getting away fifth in the field of eight, driver-trainer Robert Taylor moved this year’s Violet Stake winner to the outside with five eighths of a mile to go.
Trotting up a storm, the daughter of Miss Clara T overtook the pacesetting Fox Valley Ruffian (Kyle Husted), who had been dueling with Bonnies Star (Mike Brink) through splits of :28.3 and :58.4.
Taking command around the turn, My Miss Caroline quickly opened up a two length advantage as she cruised by the three-quarter-mile mark in 1:28.2.
Through the lane the lead swelled to three lengths before Taylor appeared to shut his champion filly down. On cruise control the rest of the way My Miss Caroline trotted under the wire with her 15th win in 16 lifetime starts. Skyline Happy (Jared Finn) closed with a rush to be the bridesmaid while Fox Valley Ruffian was third.
Bet the near exclusion of her rivals, My Miss Caroline returned $2.40, $2.20 and $2.10 while running her career earnings up to $207,875.
