Mighty And Strong was a 1:56.3 winner in Thursday’s feature at Red Shores Charlottetown, and in doing so he gave driver Marc Campbell his third trip to the winner’s circle on the twelve-race card

Campbell hustled Mighty And Strong right to the lead and he successfully carved out panels of :28, :57.4 and 1:26.4 before kicking home in :29.4 to seal the deal by a head over Roscoes Child. Rymar Chief finished fourth-placed-third. Paphos finished third but was placed seventh for causing interference while on a break in the early stages of the mile.
Jackie Matheson trains the seven-year-old son of Astreos-Skyview for owner Patrick Morris of Charlottetown, PEI. The victory was the pacer’s second of the season and the 26th of his career.
An accident occurred in Race 2 when Pictonian Story, in rein to Earl Smith, made a break going into the first turn and collided with Hot Cadillac and driver Brodie MacPhee. As a result MacPhee was thrown to the track, but was able to walk away under his own power. There were no injuries to the horses.
Racing returns to Red Shores Charlottetown on Saturday while Lobster Carnival Week racing gets underway Sunday at Red Shores Summerside featuring two Governor’s Plate eliminations. Post time is 6 p.m. for both events.
