Flight Night Soars Into Record Books

Three-year-old pacing gelding Flight Night took off in the stretch to score a 1:55.1 triumph in Wednesday night's second race at Sudbury Downs

, establishing a new track record.

Flight Night sat fourth through early fractions of :27.3 and :56.1 before scooting out and around first over Real Simple (Wayne MacLean) at three-quarters in 1:25.3. He quickly collared the popular pacesetter After The Battle (Aaron Byron) and kicked away to a four and three-quarter length victory in a career-best 1:55.1, with his final quarter clocked in :29.1. The time of the mile was one-fifth of a second off the three-year-old track record held by colt Whitesand Noble and set a new gelding mark, lowering Names Fame's record by three-fifths of a second. After The Battle finished second with FB Seelster (Mike MacNeill) back in third

The son of Western Terror-Roofin Ruth is owned by his driver, Paul MacLean, and is trained by France MacLean. After making only one start in New York Sires Stakes action as a freshman, Flight Night was sold and then claimed by his current connections for $11,250. He has recorded eight wins, three seconds and one third in 16 sophomore starts, banking $30,875.

Flight Night paid $6.30 to win as the 2-1 second choice.
