Daddy Let Me Drive was on his game at Inverness Raceway on Wednesday evening (July 5), winning the Winners Over feature class in gate-to-wire fashion.
Regular driver Rodney Gillis was at the helm as the pair took on the field of six from the rail. Daddy Let Me Drive left swiftly, taking command of the field early. Through fractions in :31.1, 1:01.3 and 1:30.3, Daddy Let Me Drive controlled the tempo. He was challenged down the lane by pocket-sitter Elm Grove Qwiggly, but fought back gamely to win by a half-length in 1:59.4. Favoured Elm Grove Qwiggly (Redmond Doucet) finished second and JJ Scarlett (Donald Gillis) rounded out the top three.
The Donald Beaton trainee added the sum of the winner's share of the $1,800 purse to move his career bankroll to $149,649. Owned by Beaton, the nine-year-old I Can Only Imagine gelding earned his third win in seven starts this season and 31st lifetime win. Daddy Let Me Drive paid $13.70 to win.
