'Rose' Goes From Last To First

It doesn't matter where Classy Lane Rose ($5.00) begins from on the starting gate because she figures to be a factor at the wire with her strong closing speed.

That was the case in the $10,000 Open Pace for the mares at Buffalo Raceway on Wednesday night (July 5) as Classy Lane Rose zoomed from last to first to snag the victory from Vla Faire by a head in 1:57.

The victory moved Classy Lane Rose's lifetime earnings to $529,733 with $47,230 of it from 2017 starts.

Susies Delight set the fractions from the rail and put up steady splits of :28.4, :58.4 and 1:27.4. Sitting sixth and last down the backstretch the final time, Classy Lane Rose (Drew Monti) was second-over and fanned out three-wide in the race to the wire. With steady and powerful strides, Classy Lane Rose was able to hit the finish line first and hold back the challenge of Vla Faire (Wade Tomaszewski), who was charging hard in the passing lane. Susies Delight (Ray Fisher Jr.) took the show spot.

Owned by Carl Monti and trained by Darrin Monti, the eight-year-old mare Classy Lane Rose (Jeremes Jet-Titanic Rose) scored her fifth win in 15 tries this year.

Drew Monti and David McNeight III finished the night with driving triples.

Racing will resume Friday night at Buffalo Raceway with 10 races set to begin at 5 p.m.
