Horse Racing New Brunswick will host its second live harness racing card at Connell Park on Saturday, July 6 with the first leg of the New Brunswick Breeders Stakes for three-year-old pacers headlining the day's action.
In the first $8,000 colt and gelding division, House Edge Hanover is the 4-5 morning line favourite with Mark Haig catch-driving the lightly raced Betting Line gelding from mid-field, post three. A winner of four of his five career starts, House Edge Hanover took a new lifetime mark of 1:55.4 last week in his season's debut at Charlottetown Driving Park for trainer Ron Matheson and owner Everette Hanson of Maugerville, N.B.
Coming off a career-best 1:57.2 victory in the Atlantic Sires Stakes at Truro Raceway last week, Resuscitate has been listed as the 8-5 morning line favourite from post three in the second $8,000 colt and gelding division. Todd Trites will retain the drive on the Stonebridge Terror gelding, who is trained by George Rennison and owned by Back To The Races Stable of Truro, N.S. A three-time winner, Resuscitate broke his maiden in a leg of the New Brunswick Breeders Stakes last year in 2:02.3 as a two-year-old.
In the $15,000 filly division, Littlestitious is the early 9-5 favourite and will start from post two with Trites picking up the catch-drive. The Bettors Delight filly earned her second career win this past Monday at the Woodstock track in 2:03.4 for trainer Wayne Watson and owner Jennifer Ritchie of Kingston, N.B.
Of note, a number of Quebec horsemen and women are shipping in for Saturday's card, including Hippodrome 3R's top driver Pascal Berube. With added horses from the other provinces in the Maritimes, the eight-race card includes some excellent overnight events.
Post time on Saturday is 1 p.m.
