Gregg McNair had a pair of bookend wins on the Thursday (July 4) evening card at Woodbine Mohawk Park and with a win in the middle, he completed a training triple. Scintillating Tom was the first up to the plate and returned as a victor in a 1:53.1 gate-to-wire performance in an $18,000 co-featured conditioned trot.
Scintillating Tom (Doug McNair) left from the center of the wings and took the top spot quickly. The G. McNair student stepped to an opening quarter clocked in :28.1. He continued comfortably on top with a 2-1/4 length lead, notching the half in :58.4 and three-quarters in 1:25.3. Magic Dealer (Bob McClure) popped from the pocket at the top of the stretch, but Scintillating Tom never broke a sweat, jogging to a 1:53.1 career best triumph by 3-1/4 lengths. Magic Dealer continued in second and Craigieburn (Trevor Henry) rounded out the top three.
Unraced as a freshman, Scintillating Tom (Alarm Detector-Thru The Wickets) recorded his second win in eight starts in his young sophomore campaign. Thomas and Elizabeth Rankin co-own the winning gelding. He returned $3.00 to win.
Doug McNair piloted Spoiled Beauty ($2.80) to victory in 1:56.4 and Valentine Bluechip ($2.70) in 1:55.2 to complete the training hat trick by Gregg McNair.
