The field is set for the Saturday night feature at Red Shores at the Charlottetown Driving Park, and Astor has been installed as the morning line favourite.
Owned by Foxyhall Racing Stable of Summerside, PEI, Astor could be part of a power-packed line-up for driver Jason Hughes. The son of Camluck was second in the Ladner Series race timed in 1:55.1 and will have to manage a Post 7 start.
Machinthesand will start from Post 6 for Brodie MacPhee. The gelding, trained by Mark Bradley for Noonan Holdings makes his seventh start of the campaign and is in top form right now. He’s also known for his dangerous finishing kick roaring home in :28.3 in his last outing.
There could be several surprises in this race with a field so deep with talent. Cheyenne Ford, a new purchase for long-time owner James O’Halloran of Montague, PEI, knocked off Ultimate Luck in their last meeting in a 1:55.1 score for Kenny Arsenault. Trainer Sifroi Melanson has listed N.B. pilot Stephen Trites to drive. The line-up also includes Sterling Seelster (Walter Cheverie), Mcmaverick (Ken Murphy), Eagle Jolt (Mark McKinnon) and Artist List (Gary Chappell).
In other action, Tempo Seelster gets top billing in the evening’s back-up class for owner-driver Vince Poulton.
“He’s been keeping company with some pretty good ones all year and as his record indicates, more than holding his own,” said race analyst Les MacIsaac.
Hurrah makes his sixth start of the season in Race 6 for Brian Andrew with all winning purse money being donated to PEI 4H club this month. The colt, trained by Mark Bradley, gets Post 2 for lessee Hurrah 4 Island Charities.
Driver Walter Cheverie is on top of the leader board in the Johnston’s Salads/Keybrand Foods Inc Trot Challenge with 74 points. Cheverie will be aboard JK Queen in the trot class.
